Married Dating-Avoiding the Trap

The following article on married dating was written by an anonymous Christian single woman who got caught up in the trap of dating a married guy. Although she knew the warning signs of how to tell she was dating a married guy, she shares this here as a warning for those tempted with a married dating relationship:

Last year, I was applying for a job and sent my resume to different consultants. I was excited to see a website by a Trainer who posted verses and included Christian messages. He interviewed me online and then met personally for an “interview”. Later on our relationship developed into a romantic one, but the business venture didn’t push through. He said he had cancer and so I felt time may be against us, and soon the relationship went very fast.

He said he was a Christian and wanted to honor God in all he does – which made me fall in true love with him even more. I had always prayed and waited on God for a soulmate, a man who will be my spiritual partner.

The first red flag I ignored was when he said that God wanted us to be – one – and that God actually wanted us to sleep together. I told him that we can wait until after we were married but I was already being manipulated to be with him in a place we can “talk and not be disturbed and have quality time”.

Even if I knew better, the relationship soon became an “idol” and I willingly succumbed to his lie. He said, from the moment he met me he knew I was to be his wife because God predestined us. He said I was the reason he wanted to live. I went to bed with him. He would come once in awhile in my hometown because he lived far away. A year of guilt, suffering, doubts and breakdown of communication took place – I never met any of his friends and family and he always had excuses and even made me feel guilty when I asked questions and he said I was being selfish when his reasons are because of his “health” or family.

Yet, I felt I couldn’t leave him because he had cancer and I genuinely loved him and wanted to spend my life with him.

I asked him the last time we were together, whether he believed that LOVE and TRUTH can not coexist without each other after he told me continuously he loved me while in bed. However, a few days after he didn’t even greet me on my birthday, and I was made to believe that it was because he became unconscious and had to be brought overseas for treatment.

That was when I decided to deactivate my yahoo account, and end it. But still, I loved him. Then I found a website where he posted an address and home phone number. yesterday, I went to this address and couldnt find it.

But truth unfolded when I left a message to the person who answered the phone and told her that I left a package for him. Today I just received a call from his WIFE. I was crying and told her I didn’t know about her. I told her if I knew, I would not have entered into the relationship because I saw my mom go through the pain when she found out about my dad’s extramarital affair.

Overall, I am heart broken and i cant believe a man who claims to love God and his country, can do such a thing to his wife – and me. It also dawned on me, that how much he has hurt me is how much I hurt the God when I “left my first love” (Jesus).

I don’t know where to start and begin to pick up the broken pieces and rebuild my shattered life. I used to be so close with God before this man entered my life. Do all you can to avoid dating married people.

A whole lot of Christians want to know about spiritual relationships and soul mates. Like is it possible for Christians of the opposite sex who have a close spiritual relationship to be Christian soul mates. Many people feel the best determining factor in determining a successful marriage (or dating relationship for that matter) is how close the couple is spiritually. Studies show that those couples who experience close spiritual relationships with each other have a much greater chance of staying in that relationship. For example, if a Christian couple prays and goes to church together, they reduce their chance of a break up by at least 14%. So, while you may have found a soul mate you feel connected and attracted to emotionally and physically, but what about the spiritual component?

How can a man (or woman) keep their way pure? Fill your heart with the Word of life. The enemy will want to tell you that it’s useless to do so, but do not believe him. The word of God is powerful!

Confess Your Victory

If you are child of God, sin shall not reign in your mortal bodies (Romans 6). You have victory in Jesus. Therefore, it’s important to confess your victory for “as a man thinks so he is.” So just continue to trust God you will break free of what ever you think has mastered you.

Commune with Him

Finally, no sin can remain a habit if you are in constant dialogue with the Saviour.

Overall, I know the sex lesson “tip” are not a cure-all for falling into sexual sin, but if you practivce these C’s, you will much better off than before.

That’ s the painful lesson I have learnt. God in his providence will use every bad experience to bring about his purposes for those he loves regardless of anything.

Take Your Time

I’m thinking give a relationship a year before you let your guard down and then if you both still want the same thing move forward. However if the other person is still unwilling to commit at this stage I would consider breaking up breaking up the interpersonal dating relationship.

Hi All. I’m a 23 year old “christian” single female who needs help fighting sin. I never ever imagined in the whole two years that I’ve struggled with christian singles.html”>masturbation that there are other Christian teens and young single adults facing the exact same issues. I’m a virgin, by definition, but it gets so hard at times.

I haven’t really wanted to have sex before marriage out of personal choice even though I was presented with the opportunity, but when it comes to masturbation, it’s like a whole different force completely takes over all logic and sense. I love God, and I want to be clean, of this because it’s holding me back. It’s as though God refuses to remove this cup, and I christian singles.html”>struggle with sex sin daily. There are weeks when it doesn’t bother me, because I’ve repented and I’m desperate for God’s forgiveness. But than there are those days when it just takes over. It hurts so badly, cause I feel like I have no self control as a single person over it…and it’s like I’m playing games with God, because I repent and ask for forgiveness and than a few days later i’m doing it all over again. I feel like I’m suffering from a terminal disease. The dealing with guilt is so immense and yet, I can’t stop myself.

I am the most terrible sinner and I hate myself for it, and yet it’s a cycle that does not seem to end. I am so desperate right now, because temptation is looming…I wish that I could hold on to something, but I would die if anyone found out, because people see me as capable of no wrong, I want to scream out that I am the worst of sinners, and yet I can’t because I’m afraid of a tainted image.

I live with different masks for different days, I’m so tired of it, I just want to be real, and accepted with this mess, that I caused…It’s such a relief to just be myself here. I just want this to end. Will it ever end? Or am I doomed to live in guilt and regret, and fear that I could die and go to hell at any moment.

Christian Dating Courting

In regard to Christian dating courting, find it interesting that christians are still in the dating scene. Dating, to me, is simply a psuedo-marriage arrangement between two people. What I mean by ‘psuedo-marriage’ is that you get to pretend that you’re married (be exclusive, tell others that you are ‘taken’, have sex, cuddle and make out, etc), but never actually make any promises or commitments. When you are dating, it is saying to others that you are ‘taken’, but you are not ‘taken’ yet. I wonder how many men and women out there that are dating, who have discouraged their true love from finding them because their true love believes that they are ‘taken’.

If you are discouraged from dating someone for years and years and years, with no forward progress, then maybe its the fact that you are dating which is the problem.

Dating, it seems to me, has been an unspoken arrangement between men and women as a compromise to marriage. As stated before, you get to enjoy the fruits of marriage while dating, but never have to commit to anything. Though there is an ‘exclusive dating’ promise inherent in dating, ask yourself how many times have you been cheated on, or how many times did you cheat?

Christians should leave dating in the secular world, where it came from, and move on to more marriage minded activities. In the book, “How I kissed dating goodbye” by Joshua Harris, he describes the ‘dating’ process for christians as ‘courting’. This is basically the same thing as dating, but instead the man and woman are solely focused on if they are good for each other in marriage. They don’t pretend they are married and say they are ‘taken’, they are looking for a partner to share their life with and have those promises and commitments in place.

It is obviously a little more complicated than this, but in summary, if you are dating someone that you hope will someday turn to marriage, you are doing it backwards. You must date with marriage in mind and with all the commitments at the forefront. If not, then you are in a psuedo-marriage, that may or may not lead to commitment.

I will encourage all christians to stop dating, and see where it leads. But I’m an idealist, and hopelessly single, lol, so it’s probably best not to listen to me.
